It’s nearly here! On September 10th, Great Sexpectations, the third book in the Laura the Explorer series, is going to be published!
Okay, so five months might not seem very ‘near’ to many readers but trust me when I say that as the author, that date seems quite terrifyingly close! Especially because the book is not even finished yet!
But there is one thing that is finished, and that’s the final cover design, which I total LOVE:
And guess what? I created this cover design myself! Alarming, right? Well, it actually wasn’t too difficult to create. Since I paid an excellent and hugely talented cover designer to create the first two books in the series, I already had a set style to base the rest of the books in the series on. So it really just came down to finding the perfect cover image (this one is a mashup of two different stock images from Shutterstock). Not too shabby, right? Plus I managed to save myself a small fortune by going down the DIY process, which was a definite win.
So how have I come to the September 10 date? Well, it’s really just to give myself a huge kick up the backside and actually GET THE BOOK DONE. No more procrastinating. No more wasted days. Just bum in chair and hands on keyboard.
Speaking of getting things done, if you (like me) feel like you’re constantly distracted, constantly ‘busy’ without actually achieving anything, and also constantly in a state of panic and knowledge overload, then you’ll probably find the book Stolen Focus by Johann Hari an excellent read. I’ve almost finished it, and it really has opened my eyes to some of the many reasons why I’ve been struggling to concentrate lately.
But I am determined to keep my September 10 publication date, and with that said I am now hard at work on the structural edit of the book. Ruby has been a great help so far.
